In 2002 virtuoso saxophonist and composer Barbara Thompson set the poetry of Tagore to a suite of 12 songs scored for 100 voices, organ & percussion with a contribution from the Poet Laureate, Andrew Motion. The suite was entitled “Journey To A Destination Unknown” and included “The Unseen Way”. Barbara later recorded this as an instrumental track with her band Paraphernalia and it was released in 2015 on her final album “The Last Fandango”. This version featuring Barbara on saxophone with Peter Lemer on keys, Taif Ball on bass, Billy Thompson on violin, recorded and produced by husband and drummer Jon Hiseman, now features her daughter, Ana Gracey, on vocals. Mixed and mastered at Temple Music Studio by Peter’s son Ru Lemer in 2023, it is Paraphernalia’s latest release and may be heard on all streaming platforms. It commemorates the first anniversary of Barbara’s passing on 9th July 2022.
